Poetry on the Road

Creating fictional landscapes from poetry and establishing a visual identity for the 14th Poetry on the Road Festival, in Bremen, Germany.

The words of twenty five authors from fifteen countries and spanning four languages formed the computational basis of different generated media forms. The visualization utilized natural language processing, visual mapping, Jan Rybicki’s TransVis research for detecting author finger prints, Yahoo’s geocoding service, and lemmata distributions to establish textual and geographical relationships of the different texts. The landscape formed a graphical map of a fictional poetic and abstract illustrations in a procedural design framework, and continued a series of more than ten years in which all works are in the festival presented in a unique visual form.
